Fossils of human footprints on the coast of Sagye-ri, Seogwipo, Jeju, were found for the first time in Asia and the eighth time in the world, and were designated as natural monuments of state-designated cultural properties.

However, it is pointed out that storage has been made and stored on the nearby coast as it has been lost due to coastal erosion, but it is not functioning properly.

KCTV Jeju Broadcasting Kim Junghoon Lee reports.

It is a fossil of human footprints found on the coast of Sagye in Seogwipo.

The shape of the footprints of a person moving in a certain direction over a 1km waterfront is almost circular.

Thousands of various fossils, including deer and bird footprints, mollusks and plant fossils, have also been found around.

Although there is controversy over the timing of its creation, it was discovered for the first time in Asia and the eighth time in the world, and was designated as a national cultural heritage natural monument in 2005.

However, clear footprints have been lost over the years due to coastal erosion such as waves.

For conservation, replicas of early-discovered human footprint fossils or naturally fallen stones are gathered and stored in a new storage in 2021.

Even globally, the storage of rare human and animal footprints fossils has not functioned properly for years.

In the storage parking lot, all the stones that have fallen from around the fossils of human footprints have been left unattended for more than a year.

It was originally stored in the storage, but due to frequent breakdowns of the constant temperature and humidity, the fossils grew mold and took them out.

[Human and animal footprints: The person who came here to repair it now said that it's very humid and it's salty because it's on the beach] It's very weak for that....]

The construction of the interior space of the reservoir to preserve fossil specimens has also been in place for three years.

Located on Jeju Olle-gil, many visitors visit the storage, but there are no proper information facilities.

Jeju Island belatedly ordered a comprehensive academic survey service to review systematic fossil preservation and storage utilization plans.

[Jeju World Heritage Headquarters: Through a comprehensive academic survey, we plan to provide only things that can explain the attractions to people who have come after considering the video and contents, and use the rest as a storage space.]

It is the first discovery in Asia and the eighth in the world, and the damage is accelerating as academically important natural monuments and records fail to secure dysfunctional storage and marginal exhibition space.
