U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres stressed in front of Russian President Vladimir Putin that "we need peace in Ukraine."

"Ukraine needs a just peace consistent with the UN Charter, international law and UN General Assembly resolutions," Guterres said at a BRICS summit event in Kazan, Russia.

"I said we should all live like one big family, but unfortunately, in the home, there are often quarrels and commotion, property division, sometimes fights," Putin said with a smile.

This is interpreted as a reference to the effect that the conflict in Ukraine was inevitable.

Guterres' visit to Russia was the first since April 2022, during the early days of Ukraine's special military operation, when Ukraine criticized Guterres for meeting with Putin, a criminal.
