Today (31st), a family group of abductees, which had announced that it would disperse leaflets against North Korea, canceled its plan in the face of strong opposition from residents in the border area.

The abductees' family group said it will cancel its plan to distribute 100,000 leaflets containing the names and photos of Koreans and Japanese abductees in front of the "National Korean War abductees Memorial Hall" in Paju, Gyeonggi Province, at around 11 a.m. today.

However, he said he would continue to try to send leaflets to the North unless the North stops broadcasting to the South and flying trash balloons.

At the site, residents of the border area, including Paju City's Civilian Control Line Village, held a counter-meeting and protested the attempt to spray leaflets, saying that daily life has become difficult, with the noise of South Korean broadcasting growing due to leaflets against North Korea.

Earlier, when a group of abductees announced the distribution of leaflets, police deployed more than 1,000 experienced people, including the Gyeonggi Northern Police Agency and Paju Police Station, to prepare for clashes with the opposition.

Gyeonggi Province, which has set the entire city of Paju as a dangerous zone, saying it could harm the safety of residents on the border, has deployed 77 special judicial police to prevent the distribution of leaflets to North Korea.
