Police have launched an investigation after a series of incidents in which expensive foreign rental cars are rented and the location tracking device is stolen from all over the country.

According to the YTN report, more than 70 stolen vehicles have been collected by rental car companies nationwide so far this year, of which 30 cases of similar damage suspected of smuggling have been confirmed.

In fact, Incheon Michuhol Police Station arrested a man in his 20s on charges of stealing a foreign car worth 300 million won from a rental car company in Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province, on the 25th of last month and is chasing an accomplice.

The Cheonan Dongnam Police Station in South Chungcheong Province is also investigating whether there is an accomplice who arrested a man in his 30s on charges of renting a foreign car in Majang-dong, Seoul, removing the location tracking device and disposing of it in September.

The last location of the affected vehicle being investigated by police stations in Incheon and Chungnam was all confirmed to be Cheonan, Chungcheongnam-do, and one of them was barely found by the victim after a search.

Earlier, Osan Police Station in Gyeonggi Province also arrested and arrested a man in his 40s on charges of handing over borrowed foreign cars to an overseas smuggling broker and sent them to the prosecution.

Amid a recent series of similar car rental thefts, the possibility that the same group committed the crime is raised, and attention is being paid to whether the police will merge the cases and investigate them collectively.
