There was a bus stop in the middle of the road.
It is the first 'island stop' in the country to introduce the concept of railroads to bus operations.
Unlike traditional bus stops, you can get on and off both two-way buses in one place.
It is promoted as a project to upgrade the Jeju-type BRT and express bus system, and two stops located on both sides of the road have been reduced to one in the center.
Problems such as reduction of sidewalk width and damage to street trees, which have been raised in the process of promoting the project, can be reduced.
A double-door bus for the operation of an island-style stop also debuted.
When using the island stop, you can use the door of the left entrance and exit located on the driver's side, and at the general stop, you can use the door on the right as before.
[Kang Hee-up / Chairman of the Metropolitan Transportation Committee of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport: Not only the first phase of BRT, but also the second and third phases are being planned in Jeju, so we reflect those things in our national plans. The financial support rate is also increasing as much as other urban railways and wide-area railways. Next, we want to create a system that can provide some support for vehicle manufacturing.]
The two-door buses and island-style stops will be operated in earnest on the section from Gwangyang Intersection to the old Haitai Dongsan Mountain around May next year.
After that, Jeju Island plans to proceed with the section from the National Museum to Nohyeong Ogeori sequentially, and in the long run, it will connect Yeonsam-ro and Yeonbuk-ro to build an internal circulation route connecting the original city center, New Jeju, and Hwabuk-gu.
In addition, it plans to introduce 171 double-door buses by 2026 to replace old buses.
[Oh Young-hoon / Governor of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province] I think foreign countries will also be interested. I think some people will come to Jeju Island to see an island-style stop and see a double-door bus, and some people will come on a field trip. Most importantly, the most important thing is to improve the convenience of citizens who use city buses..]
Even if they start full-scale operations, both double-door and regular buses will have to operate until they are fully introduced, and general stops will have to be maintained
It will take some time to see practical effects such as securing punctuality and increasing operating speed.
