Kim Ki-hyun to propose a resolution calling for 'self-defense nuclear armament'

People's Power Rep. Kim Ki-hyun said he is proposing a resolution calling for self-defense nuclear armament to maintain peace on the Korean Peninsula and ensure public security in preparation for North Korea's seventh nuclear test.

The resolution calls for the South Korean government to declare its independent nuclear armament at the self-defense level to the outside world in the event of a nuclear armed provocation.

In this case, it also stated that the government's nuclear armament is a "strategic nuclear armament" for the survival of the people and a "peaceful nuclear armament" that is immediately lifted when the North Korean nuclear threat disappears.

Rep. Kim stressed that only independent nuclear armament can actively cope with changes in the situation surrounding the Korean Peninsula based on the strong South Korea-U.S. alliance in a situation where North Korea's nuclear and missile provocations threaten not only the Republic of Korea but also neighboring countries and the U.S. mainland.
