In Zhuhai, southern Guangdong Province, where the 15th China International Air Show was held, a suspected car crash occurred on purpose, resulting in more than 70 casualties.

"Yesterday (11th), at around 7:48 p.m., a small car ran away after hitting several passers-by at a sports center in Xiangzhou-gu, Zhuhai," the Zhuhai City Public Security Bureau said.

The Public Security Bureau said 35 people have been killed and 43 injured and are being treated at hospitals so far.

After receiving the report, local authorities dispatched police and rescue teams to the scene and transported the injured to the hospital, and arrested the driver, Mr. Pan, 62, at the scene.

In the process, Mr. Pan attempted to hurt himself with a weapon, and the investigation has not yet been conducted because he has not yet regained consciousness, the public security authorities said.

"A gray off-road car drove back and forth between the square and ran away," Hong Kong's Mingbo said, citing witnesses. "Many people collapsed and did not move, and there were many blood on the ground."

On the previous day, photos and videos showing the scene of the incident were rapidly distributed on Chinese social media such as Weibo, but most of them are now deleted due to censorship by authorities.

The plaza where the accident occurred is about 400m long pedestrian zone that local residents often visited for exercise and walking, more than 50km away from the exhibition hall where the Zhuhai Air Show was held.
