Trump Names Hegseth as Defense Secretary... "Controversy over the withdrawal of U.S. troops abroad and Kim Jong-un's defense"

U.S. President-elect Trump has named Fox News host Pete Hegseth as secretary of defense for the second administration.

"Pete is tough, smart, and a true believer in America First," Trump said in a statement.

Hegseth, 44, is a retired major who has volunteered in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Since the defense minister, who was a soldier in the United States, was mainly served by retired generals. Hegseth's selection is considered unusual.

The New York Times pointed out that Hegseth defended exchanges between Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un during the first Trump period and actively embraced the "America First" agenda, including the withdrawal of U.S. troops overseas.

He also took the lead in withdrawing disciplinary action against Edward Gallagher, a member of the U.S. Navy's Special Forces, who was punished for war crimes when sending troops to Iraq.
