[Gyeonggi] Seongnam Regional Disabled Expedition, Himalayan Calapatar Climbing

People with disabilities in Seongnam have succeeded in climbing the world's highest mountain, Mount Everest Calapatar.

Kalapatar is an alpine area of 5,500m above sea level and is called the 'Everest Observatory'.

Seongnam City explained that it is significant in that two members with visual and developmental disabilities and 10 non-disabled members joined forces to overcome steep slopes and altitude sickness and succeeded in climbing the mountain.

"It was such a difficult challenge that four non-disabled members had to stop climbing due to altitude sickness," said Park Jung-hun (53, mountain expert), who led the expedition. "However, under the slogan of 'We can go together, but we can't go instead,' the disabled members succeeded in climbing Calapatar and gave us a message of hope."

The expedition team will complete the Himalayas after completing the Monzo (2,830 meters above sea level) on the 17th and return home early on the 19th.

Since September last year, they have conducted teamwork-oriented physical training and climbing training twice a month at Namhansanseong Fortress, and then left for Nepal, where the Himalayas are located, on the 4th of this month to try to climb the mountain.
