Poland to restart mission in North Korea after 4 years...the second west

Polish government says it has returned diplomats to North Korea four years after COVID-19 pandemic

The Polish Foreign Ministry said in a press release issued on the 15th local time that a foreign ministry delegation was visiting Pyongyang from the 11th to the 16th for an expedition, adding that "the Polish embassy in North Korea will operate as a temporary mission with a limited number of personnel for the time being."

Poland said the delegation's visit was aimed at restoring Poland's diplomatic position in North Korea and considering whether measures were needed to maintain diplomatic presence, including renovations to the diplomatic mission building.

Officials at the Polish Embassy in North Korea withdrew from North Korea in December 2020 following the closure of the country's borders due to COVID-19.

Poland is the second Western country to restart North Korean missions after the COVID pandemic.

In September, Sweden's foreign ministry said its diplomat had returned to Pyongyang.
