President Yoon Suk Yeol held a Korea-China summit with President Xi Jinping for the first time in two years and emphasized cooperation in response to North Korea's provocations and military cooperation between Russia and North Korea.
President Yoon, who visited Peru to attend the APEC summit, had a summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping at 1:06 a.m. today (16th) and 11:06 a.m. local time on the 15th for 29 minutes.President Yun
said in his opening remarks that he hoped that South Korea and China would cooperate in promoting stability and peace in the region in response to North Korea's successive provocations, the war in Ukraine, and military cooperation between Russia and North Korea.
He also added that he hopes to strengthen cooperation in the economic sector, the central axis of bilateral relations over the past 30 years, to promote the people's livelihoods of both countries together.
In response, President Xi said the two countries should stick to their initial commitment to diplomatic relations, keep the direction of good friendship, and demonstrate the advantages of being geographically close, having interconnected cultures, and integrating economies.
He responded by saying that China and Korea should develop strategic cooperative partnerships to bring welfare to the people of the two countries and contribute more to regional peace and stability.
The meeting between the two leaders came about two years after the first meeting in November 2022 in the wake of the G20 summit in Indonesia.
