Argentina is the only member state to vote against a UN resolution calling for the eradication of all kinds of violence against women, including in the digital environment.

The UN General Assembly's Third Committee, held at the UN headquarters in New York on the 14th local time, passed a resolution to eradicate sexual violence with 170 votes in favor, 1 against, and 13 abstentions.

Argentina argued that words such as hate speech and disinformation contained in the resolution could limit freedom of expression.

Argentina has continued its controversial diplomatic moves since the inauguration of far-right President Javier Milay, including the withdrawal of delegates from the United Nations Conference on Climate Change and opposition to gender-neutral expressions at last month's G20 meeting.
