With a special wind and waves warning issued in the sea of Jeju, more than 500 Chinese fishing boats that were fishing nearby were evacuated around Hwasun Port in Seogwipo.
The Jeju Coast Guard said more than 500 Chinese fishing boats, which were evacuated yesterday afternoon, gathered from Daepyeong-ri, Seogwipo, to Songaksan Mountain, centering on Hwasun Port.
It is the first time that so many Chinese fishing boats have been attracted since January 2016 when 1,200 Chinese fishing boats were evacuated due to bad weather.
If there is an urgent risk to ship operations due to bad weather such as typhoons, foreign ships may evacuate to the designated waters of our country.
The Coast Guard explained that it is broadcasting guidance to fishing boats so that they can evacuate to the coast of China because the port of call is currently saturated, and that ships exceeding the management standards should be evacuated to China in advance.
In addition, the Jeju Coast Guard's commandos have been deployed at Hwasun Port to strengthen monitoring of illegal fishing or smuggling under the guise of an emergency evacuation.
With wind and waves in effect for most of Korea's seas, strong winds of 35 to 80 kilometers per hour are expected in Jeju and waves are expected to be very high at more than 5 meters.
