U.N. Ambassador Hwang Jun-guk called for an immediate cease-fire, saying Israel's large-scale military operations in the Palestinian Gaza district would not guarantee Israel's long-term security.
Ambassador Hwang said at a meeting of the U.N. Security Council in New York, "The attempt to annex the West Bank undermines the international community's efforts to realize a 'two-state solution'.
The 'two-state solution' is an approach in which Israel and Palestine recognize each other as independent states through agreement and coexist peacefully, with most U.N. member states, including the United States, agreeing in principle.
At the Security Council meeting, other Security Council members, including the United States and the United Kingdom, emphasized that humanitarian aid to Gaza should be expanded as the war begins for 400 days.
In the meantime, Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danone said, "I will remember the history of who allowed terrorism," saying that staff from the U.N. Palestinian Refugee Relief Organization were also involved in Hamas' attack in October last year.
