Young to authorize storm shadow attack on Ukraine's mainland Russia

It is highly likely that Ukraine will be able to use U.S.-made surface-to-surface missiles, as well as European air-to-surface missiles, to attack mainland Russia.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who is participating in the G20 summit, said on the 18th local time, "We cannot let Russian President Vladimir Putin win," adding, "We need to strengthen support for Ukraine."

In response to Starmer's comments, a British diplomatic official explained that European countries could also follow the example of the United States to support Ukraine.

It seems that the U.S. recently authorized Ukraine to attack the Russian mainland with an Atax missile with a range of about 300 kilometers.

It has been known that the UK should allow Ukraine to attack targets inside Russia.

Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had asked for the removal of restrictions on the use of stormshades during his summit with Starmer in October.

Ukraine said it needed to attack military barracks, logistics bases, and air bases across the border to block Russia's offensive.

The Storm Shadow missile, co-developed by Britain and France, is an air-to-ground cruise missile with an operational radius of 250 kilometers.

The U.S. has provided Ukraine with Attacks, but it has placed restrictions on the use of U.S. weapons in attacks on the Russian mainland due to fears of escalation.

As a result, the U.K. and France also provided Ukraine with an air-to-surface missile storm shadow, which was jointly developed by the U.S., but imposed the same conditions as the U.S. to ban attacks on the Russian mainland.

In particular, the United States also opposed attacking mainland Russia with storm shadows.

The United States, which has provided storm shadow guidance technology, has veto power over the export and use of missiles from the United Kingdom and France.

However, analysts say that the U.S. has recently lifted restrictions on the use of Atax, so there is no more justification to oppose Storm Shadow's attack on mainland Russia.
