Matt Gates "will fight for Trump..."I'm not going back to Congress".

Former federal congressman Matt Gates, who voluntarily resigned over allegations of youth sex buying, says he will continue to fight for Trump.

In an interview with pro-Trump podcast host Charlie Kirk on the 22nd local time, Gates said he would do whatever Trump asked for.

He said he would still fight over the prospect of going back to Congress when it opens on January 3 next year, but that he has no intention of joining Congress and thinks eight years in the U.S. Congress is enough time.

Watchers say Gates's waiver to return to Congress may have taken into account that the House Ethics Committee is investigating allegations of underage sex purchases in the past.

At the House Ethics Committee, Republicans and Democrats plan to discuss whether to release the investigation report on May 5.

CBS reported that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who was first elected in 2018 and is currently in his second term, is not allowed to run in the 2026 election under state law and that Gates could run for governor two years later.
