International Rotary Chairman Stephanie Erchik emphasized that South Korean Rotary members helped North Korean defectors establish Rotary Clubs as an example of active peace.

"It is an honor to visit Korea ahead of the 100th anniversary of the foundation of Rotary Korea in 2027," Chairman Ulchik said at a press conference held at Lotte Hotel this afternoon. "The Ulsan Free Rotary Club's support for the establishment of the Rotary Club for North Korean defectors is amazing."

He added, "It is another moving example that Rotary members from Korea and Japan formed a friendly meeting to carry out scholarship projects together and helped each other in disaster situations including the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake."

"More than 1,800 fellows who have completed the Rotary Peace Center in 140 countries around the world are transforming the community," Ulchik continued. "This year, we will open a new peace center at the University of Bachesehir in Istanbul, Turkey, to support students who will strive to establish peace in the Middle East."
