Lebanon ceasefire implemented... to "strengthen troops to 10,000 in the south"

Lebanon's Defense Minister Maurice Slim said on the 27th local time that he would "increase the number of government troops deployed to the south to 10,000," Reuters reported.

"Under the cease-fire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah, the only military that can carry weapons in Lebanon is regular forces, including government forces," Slim told Al Jazeera.

Israel and Hezbollah previously agreed to a cease-fire that would halt fighting for 60 days, including Hezbollah troops withdrawing from Lebanon's southern border region and Israel's troops retreating out of Lebanon.

In southern Lebanon, where Hezbollah and Israel have withdrawn, Lebanese government forces and U.N. peacekeepers will be deployed and an international consultative body led by the U.S. will monitor compliance with the agreement.
