The White House said on the 27th local time that three Americans, including Mark Swindon, who had been imprisoned in China on espionage and drug charges, were released in exchange for prisoners between the U.S. and China.
Mark Swiden was sentenced to death in China on drug-related charges and jailed for more than 12 years, while Chinese-Americans Kai Li and John Long were in custody on espionage charges.
AFP reported that the release was in exchange for Chinese detained in the United States.
The Chinese detainee has not been identified, and the White House did not immediately confirm whether the detainees were swapped.
