The establishment of the Incheon High Court, which has been a long-cherished dream of Incheon citizens, was finalized after the revision of the Court Establishment Act was passed at the plenary session of the National Assembly.
Incheon Metropolitan City Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok said, "There is a way for Incheon citizens to receive faster and fairer judicial services," adding, "It will serve as an opportunity to strengthen Incheon's status as Korea's second economic city."
It then said it would work closely with related agencies to ensure that the court would open on March 1, 2028, as scheduled.
In the meantime, Incheon City has operated a 'Pan-Citizen Promotion Committee' consisting of 145 citizens to establish the Incheon High Court and conducted a signature campaign to deliver signatures of 1.11 million citizens to the National Assembly.
In addition, various efforts were made to persuade the necessity and justification through frequent visits and suggestions to related organizations such as the National Assembly debate, public hearings, the National Assembly, the National Court Administration, and the Ministry of Strategy and Finance. The bill for the establishment of the
Incheon High Law was introduced three times in the 21st National Assembly, but it was not processed and automatically discarded due to the expiration of the term.
At the launch of the 22nd National Assembly this year, Kim Kyo-heung of the Democratic Party of Korea and Bae Joon-young of the People's Power proposed the bill as representatives, and the ruling and opposition politicians cooperated to push for it again.
