Jeongeup-si, Jeollabuk-do, has decided to give cash-based subsidies to all citizens as in the past during the COVID-19 crisis.

It is a decision that contradicts the central government's tight fiscal policy, and Jeongeup City said it has raised funds by saving its finances.

The "people's livelihood recovery subsidy" of 250,000 won per person, which the Democratic Party of Korea floated at the start of the 22nd National Assembly, was called the so-called "Lee Jae-myung's subsidy" and faced opposition from the government and ruling party.

Since then, the discussion has effectively stopped due to the president's exercise of veto power.

[President Yoon Suk Yeol (last July): If you think so, why would you give me 250,000 won? Isn't it okay to give 1 billion won to each person? 10 billion won?]

In the midst of this, Jeongeup-si, Jeollabuk-do, has announced the payment of 300,000 won per person to support the recovery of people's livelihoods.

The reason presented is the economic downturn in domestic consumption due to the emergency martial law crisis.

Jeongeup Mayor Lee Hak-soo, who removed the frame of the president's state affairs indicators from his office before the press conference, stressed that the decision was "a strong and urgent prescription needed at this point."

At the same time, he explained that he stopped conventional and wasteful fiscal expenditures and raised the necessary budget of 31 billion won.

[Lee Hak-soo / Jeongeup Mayor, Jeollabuk-do: They told us to bring all the budget drawings and statements in the budget, so we couldn't execute unnecessary (unnecessary and non-urgent) budgets.]

Jeongeup City put 38 billion won of the remaining money into the Integrated Financial Stabilization Fund even after giving the subsidy, and in short, it saved money for future use.

At the same time, he announced his plan to continue the cost-efficiency trend by disclosing the policy of reducing 9 public officials and 28 public officials and petition police.
