South Korea is facing another presidential impeachment after eight years.

Reporter Jang Ah-young summarized how the situation is different and the same with the impeachment of President Park Geun Hye in 2016.

The reasons for former President Park Geun Hye's impeachment in 2016 were abuse of authority, leakage of official secrets, coercion, and bribery.

Since impeachment was pursued after the prosecution's investigation and prosecution, the impeachment motion was prepared based on the indictment.

2024 President of Yoon Suk Yeol is a suspect in rebellion.

The investigation is in its early stages, but the whole nation has experienced and witnessed the martial law situation in real time.

In 2016, public anger rose as the president's accusation was gradually known for more than a month.

At the end of October, when suspicions of Choi Soon-sil's manipulation of state affairs surfaced, the approval rating fell to 17%, and it maintained a 4-5% approval rating until just before the impeachment vote.

In 2024, just one shock on the night of December 3rd formed impeachment public opinion.

Immediately after martial law, the first week of December saw a 16% approval rating, and the second week, when the situation at the time of martial law was being exposed, fell to 11%.

Both 2016 and 2024 have something in common.

In 2016, 172 opposition lawmakers voted for impeachment, including the Democratic Party, and 128 members of the ruling Saenuri Party.

Among them, 234 approved and 56 opposed the impeachment.

Nearly half of the ruling party lawmakers voted for impeachment.

There are 192 more opposition lawmakers in 2024, 20 more.

There are 108 ruling People's Power lawmakers, but only three voted in the first vote.

In the second vote in a week, the impeachment motion can only go to the Constitutional Court if more than eight ruling party lawmakers approve.
