Hwacheon Sancheoneo Ice Festival, 'Seven Wonders of World Winter,' opens on the 11th of next month.

The Hwacheon Sancheoneo Ice Festival in Gangwon Province, which has established itself as a global winter festival, will open on the 11th of next month.

Hwacheon-gun said that the ice fishing grounds at the festival site have begun to freeze due to the recent sub-zero weather, and that an ice sheet with a thickness of more than 30cm is expected to form before the opening.

Prior to the opening, a lighting ceremony will be held on the 21st to light 27,000 Sancheoneos.

The Hwacheon Sancheoneo Ice Festival, which runs for 23 days from January 11 to February 2 next year, will feature various events such as indoor ice carving squares and snow sledding, in addition to ice fishing and bare-handed fishing.
