National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-sik said there is a clear need for a constitutional amendment in relation to the controversy over the impeachment triggered by President Yoon Suk Yeol's declaration of emergency martial law.

At a foreign press conference held at the National Assembly Sarangjae, Chairman Woo said, "The president's power too concentrated on the president may cause various misjudgment and problems around the president, so it must be corrected."

However, he pointed out that it is necessary to distinguish that President Yoon's work was not caused by a lack of the Constitution, but it is wrong with the current Constitution.

He also criticized President Yoon's emphasis on the inevitability of declaring martial law as a "misjudgment" with flaws in both justification and procedures, saying he did not understand it and that the people would think it was absurd.

Chairman Woo explained that he is also seeking to send a diplomatic team of lawmakers in the form of a special parliamentary envoy to the United States, Japan, China, and the European Union to raise national credibility, which has been degraded by the incident.

On his plan to challenge the presidential election, he said he had been elected chairman of the National Assembly after a fierce election and that his term was due in May 2026, and that he had not yet thought about it.
