An Italian tourist is killed in a shark attack in Egypt.

Foreign media reported that one person was killed and another injured when a shark attacked a tourist at an Egyptian Red Sea resort.

According to AFP news agency, Egypt's Ministry of Environment said the accident occurred outside the swimming zone in the Marsa Alam region.

The Ministry of Environment will close the area for two days and investigate the details of the accident.

Meanwhile, Italy's foreign ministry told AFP that the man killed in the accident was a 48-year-old man and the injured man was 69.

In the Red Sea, a popular tourist destination for scuba divers, shark attacks have often caused casualties.

In June last year, a Russian national was killed in a shark attack in Hurghada, a resort north of Marsa Alam.
