Amid the South Korea-U.S. joint investigation into the Jeju Air plane disaster, Acting President Choi Sang-mok said the most important thing in the investigation is to ensure fairness and objectivity in addition to the expertise of the investigation.

Acting President Choi Sang-mok made the remarks this morning while presiding over the sixth meeting of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters on the plane disaster.

Acting President Choi stressed that our investigators, the U.S. National Transportation Safety Commission, and aircraft manufacturers are jointly investigating the cause of the accident, and that the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport once again urges the investigation process to proceed strictly in accordance with relevant laws and international standards.

Choi also said that various opinions of experts are being reported through broadcasting and the Internet, and asked the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to strengthen their communication efforts to ensure that related information and facts are accurately and transparently communicated to the bereaved families and the people.

He also said, "I feel even more sorry for the New Year's Day with my family," and asked related agencies to respect the opinions of the bereaved families as much as possible to proceed with the funeral process and to fully communicate in the process.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said it should consider ways to reduce the burden on bereaved families, such as organizing issues that are difficult to resolve on the ground so that they can be discussed in the main text, and recommending that the Ministry of Employment and Labor give workplaces separate leave to bereaved families.

Even on New Year's Day, Choi said, "I heard that many volunteers and public officials are protecting the accident site and joining the bereaved families, and many people from all over the country are sending support," adding, "We express our respect and gratitude."
