2024, the hottest year ever...an average temperature of 14.5℃

Last year (2024), Korea's average annual temperature exceeded 14 degrees for the first time ever.

The average temperature last year, released by the Meteorological Data Opening Portal of the Korea Meteorological Administration, was 14.5 degrees, far exceeding the record of 13.7 degrees last year (2023).

The average minimum temperature last year was 9.9 degrees, which was 1 degree higher than 8.9 degrees the year before, and the average maximum temperature was 19.7 degrees, which was also higher than 19.2 degrees the year before.

Both the average minimum and maximum temperatures broke new records for the second consecutive year following the year before.

Last summer, the worst heat wave was so intense that there were areas with a daytime high of more than 40 degrees Celsius, especially late heat, with the average temperature recorded at 24.7 degrees Celsius in September, more than 4 degrees higher than usual.

Korea's average annual temperature ranking is 1st in 2024, 2nd in 2023, 3rd in 2016, and 4th in 2021, which has been getting hotter since 2000.
