Related authorities have decided to come up with supplementary measures in connection with the YTN [fact-tracking] report that the cost of cooling and heating support for the vulnerable, the so-called use of energy vouchers, has increased to inaccurate demand forecasts.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy said in a written answer to the Democratic Party of Korea's Park Ji-hye's office that it is considering subdividing the unit price of energy vouchers by reflecting household characteristics such as the cost of each energy used.
He also explained that he is considering finding additional households with basic living needs whose energy use is greatly affected by climate change.
In addition, the Ministry of Industry added that it will conduct a survey next year on the status of the underprivileged in energy use to discover and support the vulnerable in the blind spot of energy welfare.
Park Ji-hye stressed that support should be given in consideration of the characteristics of each household's energy use so that the energy voucher system can be practically helpful to the vulnerable, and that she will actively work to improve related systems, including the revision of the energy law.
Earlier on the 18th of last month, the YTN investigative report program [Fact Tracking] addressed the reality of climate inequality brought about by abnormal climate and reported the need to strengthen legal justice and support for vulnerable people in the climate crisis.
