The vote to select the head of the Korean Medical Association, the only legal doctors' group, has begun.
There are five candidates in total.
These are Kim Taek-woo, president of the National Association of Metropolitan and Provincial Doctors, Kang Hee-kyung, professor of Seoul National University of Medicine, Ju Su-ho, president of the Future Medical Forum, Lee Dong-wook, chairman of the Gyeonggi Provincial Medical Association, and Choi Anna, planning director.
Regarding the increase in medical schools, which is the core of the legislative conflict, candidate Kim expressed his position to stop recruiting for the 25th grade, and four other candidates expressed their view that the reduction of recruiting for the 26th grade is realistic.
The vote will be 100% electronic, with more than 51,000 out of 140,000 members participating.
If no candidate votes by the 4th and wins a majority of the votes, the final vote will be held on the 7th and 8th with only the 1st and 2nd candidates.
Analysts say that as there are five candidates, there is a high possibility that they will go to the final vote.
When the election is confirmed, he takes office as soon as he is elected, and there is a lot of homework to solve against the government.
Sooner or later, the second implementation plan of the government's medical reform will be announced, and the number of medical schools for the 26th grade will be confirmed by next month.
In addition, the first class and major training will begin in March after the increase in medical school.
Attention is focusing on whether the newly elected chairman of the Korean Medical Association will resolve the tight legislative issues through dialogue or find other solutions.
The medical association has been operating as an emergency committee system since November last year after former chairman Lim Hyun-taek was impeached for controversy over "discommunication" and "rude talk."
