Controversy is brewing over the damage to cultural assets after a drama filming team claimed to have nailed it at Byeongsan Seowon, a UNESCO cultural heritage site.
On the 2nd, architect Min Seo-hong said on his social media account that he witnessed the KBS drama crew hanging a model lantern for props by nailing the wooden pillars of Byeongsan Seowon and Seowon on the 30th of last month.
Min said, "There was already quite a lot of back hanging from the pillar of Mandeoru," adding, "An old middle-aged gentleman was protesting against the staff, and I couldn't stand by and help myself, asking, 'Is it okay to damage the cultural property like that?'"
However, the drama filming staff seemed to be bothered, saying, "We have already received permission from Andong City." If you are curious, why don't you ask the city hall?" he explained, expressing his anger with a complaint.
Min said, "If you think about it easily, you might think it's a big deal to nail it, but if you want to install it in a hanok house, you will hesitate quite a bit, but in the case of cultural properties, shouldn't you pay more attention?" and added, "I wonder if it's really right to allow cultural properties as filming locations."
Andong City and Byeongsan Seowon announced on the 2nd that they identified the situation at 4 p.m. on the same day and requested the KBS production team to restore it to its original state.
An official from Andong City's Cultural Heritage Division said, "We have allowed filming, but there has been no discussion on installing any cultural assets," adding, "We have specified that damage to cultural heritage is prohibited as a condition for filming permission."The Cultural Heritage Department of
plans to decide on additional measures after an on-site inspection.
