KOSPI closes down on first day of trading in New Year...Exchange rate. "Gugging".

The KOSPI did not recover to the 2,400-point level even in the first trading of the new year.

Yesterday (2nd), the KOSPI closed at 2,398.94, down 0.02% from the previous trading day.

Foreign and institutional selling continued its downward trend for five consecutive trading days.

The KOSDAQ closed 1.24% higher at 686.63.

The local currency was trading at 1,466.6 won against the U.S. dollar as of 3:30 p.m., down 5.9 won.
