Amid heightened concerns over aviation safety following the Jeju Air flight disaster, an incident occurred late last month when aircraft almost collided with each other on the runway of Los Angeles International Airport.
The LA Times reported that another aircraft from the right stopped trying to cross the runway at the moment Delta 471 took off from the runway of LA Airport at around 5 p.m. on the 27th of last month.Video footage from the YouTube channel 'Airline Video Live' captured by
showed the air traffic controller shouting "Stop, stop, stop!" in an urgent voice at the time.
The aircraft that was ordered to stop at the time was a chartered plane carrying the U.S. Gonzaga University basketball team, known as the prestigious basketball team, and forward Yeo Jun-seok, a former member of the university's basketball team.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), which is investigating the incident, said the chartered flight did not cross the runway end line and after Delta 471 took off, it crossed the runway and moved to the gate as instructed by the controller.
"The team members on the plane were not aware of the situation at all, and we are grateful that the incident ended in a safe state," Gonzaga University said in a statement.
Delta Air Lines also said in a statement that "Delta Flight 471 was operating normally" and "we are cooperating with the investigation."
