The U.S. medical director, who is called Americans' national physician, recommended that products clearly indicate that alcohol can cause cancer.
Vivek Mercy, the general secretary of medical affairs, released data on the 3rd local time and said, "Americans should be better informed about the link between alcohol and cancer."
"Alcohol consumption has contributed to a million cases of cancer in the United States over the past decade," Mercy said, noting that "20,000 people die every year from alcohol-related cancers."
Liquor containers such as beer and wine already have phrases that inform the risk of drinking during pregnancy and prevent alcohol consumption before driving.
Mercy's argument is to also make it mandatory to warn that drinking alcohol can lead to cancer, which requires congressional approval.
