Joo Jin-woo, a member of the People's Power, refuted the Democratic Party's claim that there were similar cases in the past impeachment trial of Park Geun Hye President regarding the withdrawal of the "crime of rebellion" from the reasons for impeachment of Yoon Suk Yeol President.
In a phone call with YTN, Joo said, "Excluding the crime of rebellion is not a level of organizing the wording, but the reason for impeachment itself is completely different, and it seems that the situation is completely different from then."
He then pointed out that there seems to have been some sympathy between President Park and the Constitutional Court to exclude bribery at the time, but it is unprecedented to remove the crime in a situation where the parties are arguing like now.
He also argued that few lawmakers would have agreed to the rebellion, which is a key reason for the National Assembly's impeachment vote, but excluding it would be beyond the authority of Chung Cheong-rae, the head of the impeachment prosecution.
Joo also argued that in the case of Prime Minister Han Deok-soo's impeachment trial, the reason for impeachment will virtually disappear if the crime of rebellion is eliminated, and that the Constitutional Court should proceed with the trial first.
