Last year, when extreme weather events occurred frequently, the average annual temperature on the Korean Peninsula exceeded 14 degrees for the first time since observation, the highest ever.

This year, there was a prospect that we should prepare for the rapidly changing weather, but a cold wave will come after a lot of snow from today to tomorrow.

Reporter Jung Hye-yoon's report.

weather that I've never experienced before in every season,

The year 2024 was the year when all-time records were poured out and a new weather calendar was written.

Due to the increasingly hot Earth, the temperature of the sea around the Korean Peninsula has also increased.

The warm sea brought a high-temperature spring to the Korean Peninsula, and summer heat waves and tropical nights continued into late autumn.

Finally, the average annual temperature on the Korean Peninsula last year was 14.5 degrees, surpassing 14 degrees for the first time in history.

It is the highest record since weather observation began in 1973.

In particular, in last year's year and 12 months, the average monthly temperature has never fallen below the average level.

Experts analyzed that the biggest reason for the all-time temperature that came to the Korean Peninsula was climate change caused by global warming.

[Ban Ki-sung/YTN Disaster Advisory Committee/CEO of K-Climit: Last year, not only the Korean Peninsula but also the global temperature was more than 1.5 degrees higher than before industrialization, which was the hottest ever. In particular, the sea temperature remained hotter than usual, and the sea temperature around Korea was 2.5 times higher than the global average.]

For this reason, many unpredictable weather events were recorded in Korea last year.

This weather is likely to continue this year.

First of all, cold air is expected to come down periodically in milder winter weather than usual, resulting in large temperature fluctuations and large weather changes.

The Korea Meteorological Administration predicted that there will be a lot of snow on the coast and inland between today (Sunday) and tomorrow (Monday), which are holidays, and a strong cold wave will occur in the middle of the week.

[Woo Jin-gyu/ Meteorological Agency forecaster: Snow is expected to fall enough to reach the special security zone, mainly inland in Korea, but the southwest wind is blowing, so temperature change is the key.]

Experts say that while the sea temperature around the Korean Peninsula remains high, the average annual temperature on the Korean Peninsula continues to rise and warming is intensifying, and this year, we should also thoroughly prepare for extreme weather events.
