Gender equality employment indicators such as women's employment rate and economic activity participation rate in Korea have been at the bottom for the past 20 years.
According to an analysis of employment indicators for women aged 15 to 64 in 38 OECD countries, the employment rate was 61.4% and the participation rate in economic activities was 63.1%, ranking 31st.
In particular, it was 27th in 2003 but fell four places to 31st in 20 years.
The Korea Economic Association said Korea's employment environment was found to be insufficient in two aspects: creating a flexible working environment and supporting family care compared to Germany, Japan, and the UK, where the employment rate of women exceeds 70%.
Lee Sang-ho, head of the Korea Economic and Industrial Association, said, "In order for Korea to increase the employment rate of women like advanced countries, it is important to maintain and expand jobs for women with children," and emphasized, "We need to strengthen support for family care and to create a working environment where work and family can be done at the same time."
