The high-ranking government official's criminal investigation office, which decided to entrust the police with the execution of the arrest warrant for Yoon Suk Yeol's president, said it "did not expect a backlash from the police."
Lee Jae-seung, deputy director of the Senior Civil Servant Corruption Investigations Unit, said at a press briefing today (6th) that he would like to delegate the execution to the police in consideration of expertise and uniformity of the on-site command system.
At the same time, he said he will apply to the court to extend the validity of the arrest warrant and may request a period of more than seven days to reflect police opinions.
As for the reason for not taking this approach from the outset, he claimed that he "did not expect the bodyguard to resist strongly over a legitimate warrant issued by the court."
When asked if he was acknowledging that he was not capable of executing an arrest warrant at this level, he acknowledged the limitations of manpower, but emphasized that the investigation would be the Senior Civil Servant Corruption Investigations Unit in the event of an arrest.
Regarding the theory that the Senior Civil Servant Corruption Investigations Unit and the police were in conflict at the scene over the arrest of the security chief, he dismissed it, saying that it was only part of the opinion from the scene.
