In March last year, it was found that the non-benefit medical expenses of all medical institutions, including the clinic level, reached 1.9 trillion won.
According to the data released by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the National Health Insurance Service, the non-benefit medical expenses for 1,068 items in March last year were KRW 1.8869 trillion.
The annual non-benefit medical expenses that convert this into one year are estimated to be 22.6425 trillion won.
Dentists had the largest amount of non-payment with 741.4 billion won, followed by 431.6 billion won in clinics and 261.6 billion won in hospitals.
By category, manual treatment costs are the largest in the medical field at 120.8 billion won, 70 billion won for extracorporeal shock wave treatment, and 52.3 billion won for single-person rooms.
In the dental field, implant-zirconia treatment costs were the highest at 272.2 billion won, crown-zirconia at 161 billion won, and dental correction at 41.9 billion won.
Non-payments are medical expenses that patients have to pay in full because health insurance benefits are not covered.
