The weather will change rapidly again this week.
A strong cold is expected to descend south from the northern sky of Korea, and the intensity of the cold is expected to reach minus 40 degrees Celsius in the middle of the week.
A cold wave warning has been issued in Gyeonggi Province and Gangwon Province, which are affected by the cold wave, with cold weather forecasting below minus 12 degrees Celsius.
Other regions will get cold, too.
Seoul is expected to be the coldest this winter, with temperatures dropping to minus 6 degrees Celsius tomorrow and the day after tomorrow and minus 12 degrees Celsius on Thursday.
The cold wind is especially strong, so the temperature will be close to minus 20 degrees Celsius, and there is a possibility that the first cold wave warning will be issued in Seoul.
In addition, strong cold waves in other provinces are expected to continue until the morning of the weekend, raising concerns about road freezing as well as freezing water meters.
[Woo Jin-gyu / YTN Disaster Advisory Committee, Meteorological Administration Information Officer: Amid the strong expansion of continental high pressure, cold northwest winds will flood the Korean Peninsula, leading to strong cold weather across the country this week and possible expansion of cold weather warnings. Special attention should be paid to the management of facilities such as freezing water pipes.]
In the midst of the strongest cold wave, heavy snow was predicted to be similar to the heavy snow in early winter on the west coast.
The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) said that heavy snow of up to 40cm is expected in the topographical-affected Jeonbuk region for three days until Thursday, while heavy snow of 10 to 30cm is expected in Chungcheong Province, Ulleungdo and Dokdo.
[Cong Sang-min/Korea Meteorological Administration forecaster: Due to the cold northwest wind, a snow cloud band developed at sea will be introduced, with up to 40cm of snow expected from Tuesday 7th to Thursday 9th, mainly in the Jeolla area. Special attention should be paid to the management of facilities such as greenhouses.]
The Korea Meteorological Administration asked the west coast to make every effort to inspect facilities in advance, saying heavy and strong snow could be concentrated in a short period of time and the possibility of damage to facilities could increase.
