Korean-American lawmaker Young Kim said, "The Korea-U.S. alliance must be strong despite confusion."

A Korean member of the U.S. House of Representatives called for the U.S. to pay more attention to South Korea and strengthen cooperation so that the alliance between South Korea and the U.S. will not weaken in the face of South Korea's impeachment.

Representative Young Kim of California, a Republican, said in a contribution to the political media "The Hill" that "South Korea should maintain its economic and security alliance with South Korea amid the recent political turmoil."

"Although South Korea faces its biggest challenge, I believe in South Korea's commitment to democracy," he said, urging the U.S. to pay attention to South Korea in that South Korea is an important ally in confronting the threats from North Korea and China.

It is not the time to reduce South Korea-U.S. joint exercises, human exchanges, and information and technology cooperation, he said, pointing out that South Korea's political turmoil and increasing anti-American propaganda make China and North Korea take advantage of the weaknesses of the South Korea-U.S. alliance.

Rep. Kim, a first-generation Korean immigrant, entered the House of Representatives in 2021 and served on the Foreign Affairs Committee dealing with diplomatic issues between South Korea and the U.S. and proposed a bill to re-approve the North Korean Human Rights Act.
