2025.01.07 PM 01:21
Korean researchers have discovered for the first time in the world that microplastics exist in human nasal tissues.

A joint research team from Chung-Ang University Hospital and the Korea Research Institute of Biotechnology revealed that a total of 390 microplastics were detected after microscopic examination of five areas, including nose hair, of nose surgery patients.

The research team explained that they found plastic types such as polyethylene, polyester, and polyurethane in the nose.

In addition, more than 90% of microplastics were in the form of fragments and the rest were fibers, he said, adding that he plans to continue further studies on the effects on the human body along with studies on the detection of microplastics in the nasal cavity in the future.
