A stepmother, who was put on trial in Incheon for abusing her 5th grade stepson to death, was sentenced to 30 years in prison in a remand trial.
The Seoul High Court today (7th) held the anniversary of the destruction and remand of stepmother A, who is suspected of violating the Child Welfare Act, and sentenced her to 30 years in prison.
The court explained that A continued to abuse and kill the victim, even though he fully recognized that he could die if he inflicted severe abuse on the child.
The lower court then judged that he was innocent of the murder charge, believing that there was no willful intention, but believed that there was a mistake in the misunderstanding of the law.
Earlier, the lower court, which sentenced A to 17 years in prison, said there was no intention of killing, but the Supreme Court sent the case back to the Seoul High Court to hear the case again, saying there is much room for at least unwritten intentions.
Mr. A is accused of abusing and neglecting his stepson for a long time, such as beating him and not sending him to school in an apartment in Namdong-gu, Incheon, for nearly a year from March 2022.
