Zuckerberg "abolish Facebook fact-checking"...to meet Trump's demands

2025.01.08 AM 01:17
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has announced the abolition of the "fact-checking" feature that identifies fake news on Facebook and Instagram.

Zuckerberg said in a video message that he is trying to focus on restoring freedom of expression, and that he will remove the fact-checking feature and replace it with something similar to X's community notes that allow users to comment.

Zuckerberg has argued that his fact-checkers have been too biased politically and have broken rather than created trust in us.

Zuckerberg's announcement is seen as responding to President-elect Trump's call to remove social media platforms from their own content censorship functions.

Trump and his supporters have argued that social media excessively censors and blocks right-wing claims.

Zuckerberg recently announced the appointment of UFC CEO Dana White, who is considered Trump's closest aide, as a meta board member.
