Inni to dismiss Shin Tae-yong and appoint Dutch coach Kluibert

2025.01.08 PM 10:14
The Indonesian Football Association, which replaced Shin Tae-yong, has appointed Patrick Kluibert, a former striker for the Dutch national team, as the next men's national team coach.

According to local Antara news agency, the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) announced that Kluibert will lead the Indonesian national soccer team until 2027 on behalf of Shin.

Kluivert will enter Indonesia with two Dutch coaches on the 11th.

PSSI announced Kluivert's appointment by posting a video on his official Instagram account showing him playing as a player.

Kluivert is a legendary Dutch striker.

He played for AC Milan, Ajax and Barcelona, and scored 40 goals in 79 appearances for the Netherlands.

In particular, in 1995, he played for Ajax and led the team to a UEFA Champions League championship.

After retiring in 2008, he served as a leader, but he did not perform well unlike when he was a player.

Kluibert was the national team for Curaçao from March 2015 to June of the following year, and from May to October 2021 and was the head coach of Turkiye League Adana Demirspor between July and December last year.

However, he had four wins, four draws and six losses while playing for the Quiraso national team, and eight wins, six draws and six losses for Adana Demirspor.

Indonesia is currently third in the group in the third Asian qualifying round for the 2026 North-China World Cup. Up to the second place in each group, you can go straight to the finals, but there is a possibility of advancing to the finals because it is one point away from the second place.

Kluivert is expected to play his first official match as Indonesia's coach in a World Cup qualifying match against Australia on March 20.

Coach Shin, who resigned from the Indonesian national team coach this time, has taken charge of Indonesia since 2019 and led it to the 2020 Mitsubishi Cup runner-up, and he also frustrated South Korea's 10th consecutive Olympics by beating South Korea in the quarterfinals at last year's U-23 Asian Cup.

While he was in charge, Indonesia's FIFA ranking rose nearly 50 places from 173rd to 127th as of last month, but PSSI suddenly dismissed Shin.

Shin appointed naturalized players from the Netherlands, and some media outlets suggested that a Dutch coach was needed in line with this national team situation.
