Dozens killed in Israeli airstrikes even during ceasefire talks

2025.01.09 AM 01:09
Israeli airstrikes killed at least 22 people across Gaza on the 8th local time amid negotiations for a ceasefire in Gaza, Palestinian medics said.

At least 10 people were killed in Israeli airstrikes in a multi-storey house in Gaza City, and five in a nearby suburb of Zaytun, medics said.

A total of seven people were also killed in the Deir al-Balasi and Zabalia refugee camps in central Gaza, where hundreds of thousands of evacuees are being evacuated.

The Israeli military says it was an attack targeting Hamas militants operating at a school in Zabalia and that it has tried to minimize civilian damage.

Amid the ongoing Israeli airstrikes, the United States, Qatar and Egypt are making intensive efforts to negotiate a ceasefire, and the deal is the most serious attempt at negotiations so far, Reuters reported, citing a source.

The outgoing U.S. administration has urged negotiations to conclude before Biden leaves office, and many in the region see Trump's inauguration on the 20th as an unofficial deadline.
