A strong chill fell south from the north, and the temperature felt today plummeted to around minus 20 degrees Celsius, resulting in a cold spell like a freezer.

Heavy snow hit the west coast and typhoon-like strong winds hit the coast.

Cold weather, heavy snow, and strong winds are expected to be at a critical moment tonight. I'll connect you with reporters for more information,
Reporter Jung Hye-yoon
This morning, a freezer-level cold wave continued, right?

[Reporter]
Yes, it is. With the strongest cold wave this winter, the freezing cold has come to the level of freezers, mainly in central regions such as Seoul.

The lowest temperature in the country was in the mountains of Gangwon-do Province, where the temperature of Seoraksan Mountain and Hyangrobong Peak fell to around minus 25 degrees Celsius, and the temperature felt was as low as minus 36.8 degrees Celsius.

Seoul's official temperature was minus 10.2 degrees, the lowest this winter, and the temperature felt was around minus 18 degrees.

In particular, Yejang-dong, Jung-gu, saw its lowest temperature drop below minus 22 degrees Celsius.

In addition, temperatures below minus 10 degrees Celsius and coldness around minus 20 degrees Celsius were recorded in many parts of the central part, including northern Gyeonggi Province and Gangwon Province.

As of 2 p.m., the temperature in Seoul is -8 degrees Celsius and the wind chill continues to be -17 degrees Celsius.

As a result, cold wave warnings have been issued throughout Gangwon-do and northeastern Gyeonggi-do Province.

Tomorrow morning, the temperature in Seoul will drop to minus 12 degrees Celsius. However, the momentum of the cold wave will ease little by little, and the temperature in Seoul will be minus 15 degrees Celsius tomorrow, 4 degrees higher than today, and the cold wave is expected to ease from daytime on the weekend.

I'm worried because it's suddenly cold.

It snowed a lot on the west coast due to this cold wave, is cold air the cause?

[Reporter]
Yes, it is.

A strong chill of minus 40 degrees Celsius from the northern sky of the Korean Peninsula passed southward and over the western sea, creating a snow cloud that developed into Chungcheong and Honam's west coast.

In addition, 20 to 30 centimeters of heavy snow has been concentrated in the Jeonbuk region since the night of the 6th as snow clouds introduced inland by the wind hit the mountain range.

At the same time, typhoon-like strong winds of 30 to 30 meters per second were blowing in the mountains of Gangwon-do, the coast of Jeollanam-do, and the mountain coast of Jeju between yesterday and today.

The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) said it will receive up to 20cm more snow and up to 15cm more on the west coast of Chungnam by tomorrow, mainly in Jeollabuk-do Province, and asked for continued vigilance.
