Four executives, including former MBC President Seungho Choi, who was put on trial for penalizing journalists who did not participate in the 2017 strike, were fined in the first trial.
The Seoul Western District Court fined Choi 8 million won today (9th) for violating the Trade Union Act.
In addition, Park Sung-je, the head of the reporting center at the time, and the head of the reporting department were fined 6 million won, and the head of the reporting department was fined 5 million won.
The court said that the defendants improperly exercised or participated in the personnel rights of their employees as public broadcasting executives, causing considerable damage to the members and unions who were excluded from the coverage work.
Choi, who has denied the allegations, is reportedly considering an appeal.
Earlier, former president Choi and others were put on trial on charges of excluding reporters who belong to a third union or who are non-union members from their coverage work without a reasonable reason during their tenure.
