US Embassy in Denmark "doesn't plan to increase the number of troops in Greenland"

2025.01.09 PM 06:54
Regarding U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's expression of his intention to incorporate Danish Greenland into the U.S., the U.S. Embassy in Denmark says it has no plans to increase the size of U.S. troops in Greenland.

A spokesman for the U.S. Embassy in Denmark responded to media inquiries about Trump's stance on his remarks.

It also said it would continue to work closely with the Danish and Greenland authorities to ensure any proposals meet common security requirements.

Earlier, when asked at a press conference on the 7th local time whether he would rule out military or economic coercion to secure control of the Panama Canal and Greenland, Trump replied, "I can't say for sure."

European countries such as Germany and France have expressed concern as this could be interpreted to mean they can also use force against NATO and NATO ally Denmark to take Greenland.
