background
The Ukrainian military claims that North Korean soldiers sent to help Russia at war with Ukraine are actually being used as "human mine detectors."

The British daily The Times reported on the 9th (local time) citing the testimony of Lieutenant Colonel Leopard of the 33rd Separate Crash Battalion Big Cats, which recently engaged North Korean troops in the town of Mahnopka in Kursk, Russia.

"North Korea has a 'meat crushing' strategy," Leopard said. "Where Ukrainians put mine-clearing vehicles, they just use people."

"They walk three to four meters apart from each other in a row," he said. "If one person is bombed, medical staff follow and collect the body, and people continue to do it in turn."

"That's how they go through the minefield," Leopard said.

Leopard said North Korean troops were in a unit with Russian troops to cover up their identities.

He also testified that the North Korean military only used small weapons such as machine guns and grenade launchers and mortars, and did not use drones.

However, he said he believes the North Korean military has begun to learn about drones and observed that the longer the war goes on, the more likely they are to introduce drones.

Leopard explained that the North Korean military is well trained and physically healthy, but because of unfamiliar weather and terrain, they are assigned guides to help them navigate their surroundings.

He also testified that while his battalion captured one of the Russian guides, the North Korean army refused to be captured and tried to fight or flee until death.

It also added that North Korean commanders did not seem to be panicked by the loss of life.

Leopard explained that North Korean troops pushed out of the village tried to hide in the woods, but their thermal cameras easily captured them.
