The KOSPI weakened for the seventh day amid heavy foreign selling.
The KOSPI started 0.06% higher in the stock market, but closed 0.4% lower at 2,513.37 after turning straight lower and increasing its fall.
Foreigners net sold more than 1 trillion won, continuing their net selling streak for the seventh day.
Samsung Electronics fell more than 2 percent and fell to a 52-week low of 64,200 won during the day.
The tech-heavy KOSDAQ index ended the day higher at 709.42, up 0.46 percent.
In Seoul, the won-dollar exchange rate fell 4.7 won to 1,339 won as of 3:30 p.m.
